chardonnay
A properly ripened Chardonnay grape is full of fruit with a minerally
foundation and just the right amount of acidity. To achieve this, vines must be
grown on mineral rich soils in cool areas. Medlock Ames' mountainside location
provides the perfect conditions. We have planted Chardonnay on the lowest
portion of the vineyard. Here, cool air is trapped as it descends from the upper
slopes of Bell Mountain and pours out of the higher elevations of the Chalk Hill
appellation. The trapped air retains lower temperatures later into the
afternoon, providing an environment these vines love.
