As we taste each individual lot of wine from the myriad of distinct blocks on our Bell Mountain Estate Ranch, we discover that certain parts of the vineyard are best as components for small production blends. These micro blocks are identified and, over time and experimentation, they become part of our Small Lot Collection. These wines are 100% estate-grown, organic, and limited in their release.

Kate's & B's is named after Founder Chris James' wife, Bradley, and Winemaker Ames Morison's wife, Kate. The blocks where the fruit is sourced are reflective of classic Bordeaux territory - high-density vine spacing, gravely clay soils, tiny yields of small inky-black berries, and a thoughtful clonal selection matched by a rigorous farming regime.

The Cabernet Sauvignon portion of the 2015 Kate's & B's is supported by other varieties that make the whole better than the sum of its parts - which is always our goal in blending. In this vintage, Cabernet Sauvignon is the backbone while Malbec gives it a plush texture. Petit Verdot adds deep color and Merlot completes the mouthfeel.

The wine offers inviting, fruity aromas of blackberry and blueberry with underlying notes of cinnamon and lavender. On the palate, this wine is rich, complex, and with firm tannins that slowly resolve into smooth and harmonious sensation. The French oak is well integrated giving a finish that is long with lingering mocha. This wine will definitely cellar well and we encourage you to save a few bottles for the next decade, if you have the willpower.

Cool, overcast conditions in May influenced the vines to set less fruit than normal. Fortunately the temperature rebounded and gave us one of our warmest years on record, but without the excessive temperature spikes we often see during warmer vintages. We also harvested earlier than in previous vintages. The result of these conditions was a lighter than expected crop, but with more intense aromatics and increased concentration, and generally lower alcohol.
