2022 THE WEDDING TREE CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Each of our Cabernet Sauvignons are crafted from over 25 different blocks and styled in a way that shows what this grape can do throughout one vineyard. The Wedding Tree Cabernet Sauvignon is an evolution of the original Kate’s & B’s wine that was named for the wives of the founders and crafted in a way that showed the elegance of the grape and subtlety of tannins that only Alexander Valley and our special spot at Bell Mountain Vineyard can create. We have renamed this same style of Cabernet Sauvignon after an ancient, stately olive tree that provided the backdrop for the first wedding ever held at Bell Mountain more than 20 years ago. This tree cast its great branches over the couple as they shared their vows and endured all the wonders and harshness that mother nature has thrown at Bell Mountain over the years. This tree remains steadfast as it did all those years ago and remains a symbol of love and devotion today.

The 2022 Wedding Tree Cabernet Sauvignon greets the nose with a harmonious blend of ripe blueberry and raspberry, elevated by subtle notes of cinnamon and fenugreek. Green tea and fennel bulb add an intriguing herbal layer, creating a complex aromatic profile. On the palate, bold cherry flavors unfold with fresh herbs, leading into a velvety texture punctuated by lingering, soft tannins. A rich, mixed berry compote emerges, while espresso bean and blue fruit round out the finish with depth and refinement. Perfect alongside roasted duck, herb-crusted pork tenderloin, or a luxurious dessert featuring dark chocolate and berry compote.

Vintage

The 2022 vintage hit records in so many ways. We had several rounds of severe frost including in areas where we normally don’t see frost. We had our latest frost on record during the middle of May which caused a significant crop loss. Nevertheless, we had high hopes for the vintage as we got closer to fall. During September we endured a record heat wave in which we had more than 8 days above 100 degrees with one day topping out at 119 degrees. Thankfully our canopies fared this weather well. 2022 is overdelivering on aromatic intensity, full flavor, and gentle tannins. Everything ripened a little earlier and we finished off the season with the smallest and earliest harvest on record, though we think perhaps some of the tastiest.
